Milspeak Memo is dedicated to Freedom of Speech.

Milspeak Memo is devoted to posting creative writing by military people

relating their stories in their own words through memoir, personal essay, fiction and poetry.

 

Each volume of Milspeak Memo is devoted to a theme.

Calls for submission are based on theme.

Not every volume will include all genres.

As submissions arrive, they will be posted to the volume.

Please, carefully read manuscript guidelines and Volume Calls for Submissions, and follow the guidance.

If you do not have access to Microsoft Word, please paste your submission into the body of the email you send.

Photographs and maps are welcome, but must be included in the document file, formatted as they should appear, and permission for use secured by author.

 

Authors retain all rights to their work and grant Milspeak Memo nonexclusive, one time only rights to post their work on the web. Milspeak Memo cannot monetarily compensate writers because this ezine is operated without funding or overhead. Writers post their work at their own risk. Milspeak Memo is not responsible for litigation concerning any element of work posted. Milspeak Memo reserves the right not to post writing deemed unsuitable for general publication to an adult audience or that in any way adversely affects our nationÕs security or our warriorsÕ safety. Other than formatting the work for the web, each submission will appear as it is received, in the authorÕs own words. Please include a statement in your email granting Milspeak Memo one-time nonexclusive rights to post your work on Milspeak Memo. Also include a contributor note if you would like one to appear with your work.

Call for Submissions

 

Volume 1: The Vietnam Experience

Volume 1 will be posting from 3 Jan – 3 Mar 2009.

 

Seeking submissions of personal essay, memoir, and poetry about the Vietnam War experience from Vietnam War-era Veterans, their family members, and USO entertainers who toured during the Vietnam War. Send up to three poems and/or one true story about your Vietnam War experience. Anecdotes and trivia are welcome. So are video clips and photographs. Send a link to your own site, or links to sites that are important to Vietnam Veterans. This volume is a place to share the Vietnam War Era experience – your memories are important. Your story is worth telling no matter how short.

Include your name, email address, and a short paragraph about your Vietnam War connection in the email. If you would like to remain anonymous or want to post under a pseudonym, please include your by-line. Attach your submission as a Microsoft Word document to the email. If you do not have access to Microsoft Word, include your submission in the body of your email.

 

 

 

Volume 2: Military Tattoos

Volume 2 will be posting from 3 Mar – 3 May 2009.

 

Do you have a military tattoo? Send a true story describing your tattoo (or tattoos), telling us why you got it (each one) and what it (each one) means to you. Include a photo if you have one.

 

 

 

 

Volume 3: Military Fiction by Military People

Volume 3 will be posting from 3 May – 3 Aug 2009.

 

Send a short story about military life – any service, any era. No novels, please. Include a brief statement about your military connection in your email.

 

 

 

Volume 4: The Gulf War Experience

Volume 4 will be posting from 3 Aug – 3 Oct 2009.

 

Seeking submissions of personal essay, memoir, and poetry about the Gulf War experience from Gulf War I (Operation Desert Storm) and Gulf War II (Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom) warriors, veterans, their family members, and USO entertainers that have toured during Gulf War I and II. Submissions are welcome from those who served in the reserves or on active duty but did not serve in the Middle East. Send up to three poems and/or one true story about your Gulf War experience. Anecdotes and trivia are welcome.

Include your name, email address, and a short description of your Gulf War connection in the email. Attach your poem or story as a Microsoft Word document to the email.

Volume 5 will be posting from 3 Oct – 3 Dec 2009

 

Seeking submissions of personal essay, memoir, and poetry from drill instructors – any service, any era – about your drill field experience and how it affected your life.
