About MilSpeak Books

MilSpeak Books is the nonprofit electronic books publishing division of MilSpeak Foundation (501c3). Purchasing a book supports MilSpeak Foundation programs. Depending on which state you live in, your purchase may be tax deductible. MilSpeak Books is dedicated to publishing creative works by military people. MB was founded because military people's contributions to American Literature goes largely unrecognized and unpublished by corporate publishers. MB is dedicated to providing a venue for creative literary works written by military people. To date, eight titles have been published with nine on the way for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. At a time when other presses are losing readers, MB's reading audience is growing and this press is operating in the black.

MilSpeak Books is smaller than small. This micro-press publishes only eBooks, has no marketing other than social networking and website exposure, and has no overhead. The idea is to make the publishing dream come true for the military person who writes, to connect MilSpeak writers with MilSpeak readers, and to assist emerging writers learn about the publishing business while building a readership and marketing skills.

Genres considered for publication include nonfiction (memoir, essay, biography, autobiography, photo-essay, graphic), poetry, fiction, photography and art.

Creative works by civilian writers addressing important military life themes will be considered for publication.
MilSpeak Books is not an academic publisher. Nor does it publish war fighting volumes or political tomes. Presses abound that publish such works. MilSpeak Books publishes creative works - short stories, novels, autobiography, biography, memoir, essay, photo-essays, photography, art, etx., primarily by military people.

Not all of MB’s titles will be military life-themed. The purpose of this press is to publish and promote CREATIVE WORKS by military people. MilSpeak Foundation defines military people as active duty military members, former military, veterans, retirees, military family members present and past, members of the National Guard and Reserves, Merchant Marines, and federal and civil employees working or retired from a position within the military civil support network.

MB’s electronic books division launched its first two titles December 24, 2009. Visit the Recent Releases page for full details and coupon information.

The majority of the purchase price of each title goes directly toward supporting Milspeak Foundation (501c3) operations. Milspeak Foundation is operated by volunteers and has no salaried employees at this time. Foundation programs are free to participants. Milspeak Books authors are paid standard royalties, as any other independent press would do. MilSpeak Books is not a vanity press or a self-publishing business.
