There is so much to give thanks for - despite all that’s been lost this year, including my good friend and ally, Fred Siedentopf - Sied or Bat Rastard. I think old Bat’s been looking out for Milspeak this year. We got the royalty statement this week, Bat, and God knows NINE BUCKS don’t go far. That’s THREE BUCKS for the Chaplains Fund and SIX BUCKS for Milspeak! Always did have a thing for THREE’s. AIN’T THAT RICH? A wiser woman would have quit by now. LOL!!! Bat, you always did think my Big Picture plan was insane, but you know I don’t give up easy. It’s a good thing someone pre-ordered three copies of the anthology in June, or we would’a had a big egg to cover expenses of running a foundation for the next few months. As it is, those six bucks get carried over to the next royalty statement. Well, I promised transparency and transparency you’ll get. Here’s the good news. Before Christmas, Milspeak Books will launch with three eBook titles. One of these, an abridged version of the anthology, will be made available as a free download to the troops. It’s an abridged version because I took most of my own and the workshop story out - too many people have said my story is too ugly. Okay - ugly, but true and inspiring. I owe everything I am to good old fashioned Marine Corps discipline combined with a heavy dose of “I Believe.” Plus, two of Dick Reynold’s novels will be published as ebooks in the Milspeak Books list. Best news yet - and Bat, you will really like this - next week while I’m in DC, I’m going to carry a few copies of the anthology to the patients at Walter Reed, and I’m going to find out if they want to write with me. Ain’t life grand? I swear, what else could I ask for? I am so grateful to be able to carry Milspeak wherever it is wanted and to write with warriors, their families and their friends wherever they might be. More good news - Spartanburg Community College is bringing a Milspeak Creative Writing Seminar to their Campus early next year, and I think we’re going to get to have a workshop with Wounded Warrior Battalion East. How much better can it get? Who gives a rat’s a$% (sorry Bat) if we don’t have any funding? Isn’t it amazing what we’ve been able to accomplish without funding? I’d say faith and a good dose of “I Believe” has gone a long way toward keeping this show on the road. So Bat, if you have the Old Man’s ear (and I know you do because I’m pretty sure you’re counting them as they come through the gate), tell him I said, “Thank you for all you’ve given, all you’ve taken, and all you’ve left.” Happy Thanksgiving!
